Baily-Tawang Trek by Basecamp Adventures.


The Baily– Tawang partially aligned along the ancient trade route. In ancient days,to cross over the Himalayan watershed from Tibet over the Tukung-la pass, the traders traveled along a different route. This route was first explored by British surveyors lead by F.M. Bailey in 1913 - and came to be called 'The Bailey Trail'. In 1962 the Chinese army used this route to strike deep into Arunachal Pradesh. The trek connects a series of interlocking valleys, connected through six major passes reaching up to 4550 m. You also get to see quant monpa villages, the Tawang Monastery and spend time exploring other sights around Tawang and meeting the people.

  • Day 01: Tezpur

    Drive Guwahati to Tezpur, 181 Kms in 04.30 hrs, overnight at hotel.

  • Day 02: Dirang (1500 m)

    Drive Tezpur to Dirang via Bomdila, 213 Kms in 06 hours. We will be travelling through Bhalukpong Check Gate bordering Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

  • Day 03: Chander (2530 m)-Tungri(3100 m)

    Drive to Chander and Trek to Tungri, 4-5 hrs. Trek includes awesome panoramic view of snow and steady uphill climbing through the forest.

  • Day 04: Chang la (3650 m)

    Tough trek through the coniferous forest with the outstanding view of Eastern Himalayas.

  • Day 05: Potak(4200 m)

    We will descend through forests of Juniper and Rhododendrons and climb back through alpine trees to reach Potak for overnight camping.

  • Day 06: Se la (4550 m) – Lortum(4100 m)

    Climb to Se La Pass,the highest point of the trek with breathtaking view of Gorichen and Kangto peaks. Visit a small Alpine lake below the summit. Decent to Lortum and camp overnight.

  • Day 07: Luguthang(4500 m)

    These 8 hours challenging trek includes good views of the Tawang Chhu Valley, Khokar la pass connecting the Lortam and Luguthang valleys, wonderful view of alpine lake and one of the best campsites in Himalayas.

  • Day 08: Tsonai(4500 m)

    We will be crossing two major high passes through ascents and descents. Overnight camping in lovely pasture at Tsonai.

  • Day 09: Se la (4267 m) – Tawang(3048 m)

    During the trek to Se La, climb the Kya La pass. Descend to the Tawang Chhu Valley at Jang through the Nuranang Valley Drive through the beautiful countryside view. O/N at Tawang.

  • Day 10: Tawang sightseeing

    Visit 350 years old Tawang Monastery. It is the second oldest in Tibetan Buddhism and the fountain-head of the spiritual life of the Gelupa Section of the Mahayana School of Buddhism. A colossal, richly gilded statue of Lord Buddha sitting 26 feet high, occupies the middle of the northern side. We can also visit Visit Buddhist nunnery, crafts center, and Urgelling Monastery.O/N at Tawang.

  • Day 11: Dirang Sightseeing

    Visit Monpa heritage village, Sangti Valley, Yak Research centre, and O/N at hotel at Dirang.

  • Day 12: Tezpur

    Drive back to Tezpur.O/N stay at hotel

  • Day 13: Guwahati

    Drive to Guwahati airport, 183 kms in 04.30 hrs, for your departure flight to Delhi/ Kolkota
