Description

One of the most popular treks in the Ladakh region is the Markha Valley Trek that tickles the mind of several adventurers travelling to Ladakh. It is a traditional journey that passes through various landscapes, wildlife territory and remote villages. The Markha Valley Trek when winds onto the Hemis National Park and Rumbuk Valley, one can acquaint some of the rare species of the Himalayan belt and if you are fortunate enough you may encounter a Snow Leopard. Nonetheless the valley also hosts several species like the lynx, Ladakhi Urial (a type of goat), Arghali (great Tibetan sheep), Blue sheep, Red fox, Tibetan wolf, Dhole (wild dog), Marmot and Mountain hare. The Markha Valley Trek also delves into the remote and hard folklore of the Rumbuk village followed by Yurutse and Markha that fetches the explorers to mull over the indigenous culture of the Indo-Tibetans. One may also live their lifestyle for a night stepping onto the floor of traditional home stays. Further the trekking trail in Ladakh region also carves your way up to the shrines like Lhatos and Mani before entering Markha village. The journey winds and trails up to the Kongmaru La at 5100 meter wherefrom one can capture the spectacular view of the hulking high Kang Yatze peak and northwards to the peaks of the Tibetan border.Markha Valley Trek.

The traditional Markha Valley Trek commences from Spituk and heads up to Ganda La en route Zingchen and thereafter to Skiu, which is an isolated village and host an old monastery and ruins of an old castle that was once a rest stop for the Royal family on their way to Srinagar. From Skiu the tracks lead to Markha and thereby to Shangsumdo via Kongmaru La.


Itinerary

  • Day 1:

    Delhi Met on arrival at International airport and transfer to hotel for overnight stay. Overnight: Hotel

  • Day 2:

    Delhi - Manali (Overnight Volvo Bus) (B) Morning free to visit the monuments of Old Delhi and New Delhi. In the evening transfer to Volvo Bus Stand to board the overnight Volvo to Manali . Overnight: Volvo Bus

  • Day 3:

    Arrive Manali Morning arrive in Manali and transfer to hotel. Rest and relax and in the afternoon proceed for sightseeing tour of Manali. Visit Hadimba Devi Temple and Vashist Hot water spring. In the evening take a walk on the Mall road of Manali. Return back to hotel for overnight stay. Overnight: Hotel

  • Day 4:

    Manali - Preni - Hamta Village (B,L,D) Drive to Preni - the starting point of trek. From Preni start trek with a steep climb, with a view of the Manali valley from above. Camp at Marasu campsite (2745 mt). Overnight: Tent

  • Day 5:

    Marasu - Chikka (Trek) (B,L,D) After breakfast start trek (6 hour) along the river valley with view of Jobri peaks. The trek crosess many glacial streams over improvised wooden bridges. Passing through a narrow gorge and arriving at Chikkha (3140 mt). Overnight stay in tented camp. Overnight: Tent

  • Day 6:

    Chikka - Hamta Base (B,L,D) After breakfast trek (6 hour) through alpine meadows which is full of many alpine flowers. Also many interesting glacial features can be seen along the way. Set-up camp at Bhalu Gera (3660 mt), which is located in an open meadow within the site of the snow bound Hamta pass for overnight stay. Overnight: Tent

  • Day 7:

    Hamta Base - Hamta Pass - Hamta (B,L,D) Start the trek by climbing up the Hamta pass (4270 mt), walking on the snowfields. From top of the pass you can see Deo Tibba and Indrasan peaks of the Greater Himalayas. A short descent to the campsite at Hamta at 3900 mt. Overnight stay in tented camp. Overnight: Tent

  • Day 8:

    Hamta - Chhatru - Chota Dhara (B,L,D) Todays trek is leisurely walk following the valley stream down to the mighty river Chandra. Arriving by the side of Manali-Sipti road. Walk for about an hr to reach Chhota Dhara (3350 mt). Set-up camp for overnight stay. Overnight: Tent

  • Day 9:

    Chota Dhara - Rohtang Pass - Manali (B,L) Drive back to Manali via Rohtang Pass (3980 mt) and Marhi. Rohtang Pass offers splendid view of Lahaul and Spiti Valley. Overnight: Hotel

  • Day 10:

    Manali - Delhi (Volvo) (B) Morning free to explore the Manali own on. Afternoon transfer to Volvo bus stand of Manali to board the AC Volvo to Delhi. Overnight: Volvo.

  • Day 11:

    Arrive Delhi In the morning arrive to New Delhi and transfer to Hotel. Rest of the day free to rest and relax. Overnight: Hotel

  • Day 12:

    Depart Delhi (B) Transfer to airport in time to board flight to onward destination
