with other better trained or more form. Drink a lot ( 3-5 liters of water

per day) and most importantly, walk at your own pace is the guarantee

of the success of your ascension. Our guides , assistants and porters are

physical preparation

The Kilimanjaro requires no technical , the entire journey takes place on

trails. The summit ridge may have some short passages of easy

snowfields where the trace will be made. You must be in good physical

condition : good walker, you have a good experience of trekking in

mountain and you maintain your shape by playing sports

• Characteristics of the ascension

Running time means 8 hours per day

• To have the best chance of success is to have a very slow pace , even

exaggeratedly so you never get tired . Drink a lot, even if you do not

feel thirsty . These are the basic rules for successful ascent , it must be

observed to reach the top in good condition . However, physically ,

good preparation is essential if you are in good physical condition , this

ride will seem easy, and you will not experience little or no fatigue. That

said, people over 60 years often reach the top without then drive that

trained runners fail for lack of care. For the final ascent , do not

hesitate to slow your guide, even if the pace is slow already , even if it

seems ridiculously slow . It is essential not to get tired.

Acute Mountain Sickness ( M.A.M )

Mountain sickness gradually manifest ( or simultaneously) by

headaches , insomnia , loss of appetite, nausea then finally by cerebral

and pulmonary edema. The first precaution is to properly feed water :

must drink at least 3-4 liters of water per day, even if you do not feel

thirsty If any symptoms occur , you can take preventive aspirin. You can

also make lightweight sleeping pills to help you relax better ( consult

your doctor !) , Including the night before the summit. Be aware that

altitude sickness is not instantaneous . There is a gap between progress

and the effects of altitude . This is why we make the descent soon after

the ascension to completely eliminate the effects of altitude.

To prevent acute mountain sickness ( AMS ), you must follow the

rules for acclimatization climbs

: Climbing speed is a key factor in the development of AMS . From

3000m , the rate of increase should not exceed 500m between two

consecutive nights. Some advise to spend two days at the same altitude

before beginning strenuous exercise . These basic prevention rules are

not always observed on the slopes of Kilimanjaro.

Drug prevention should be reserved for those whose response to

hypoxia is insufficient ( the diagnosis must be determined by

specialized consultation) Drug treatment is also possible when it is

impossible to make a gradual adjustment .

Light MAM (symptoms : headache , nausea or anorexia , insomnia,

feeling dizzy ) = higher paracetamol or aspirin

MAM moderate (symptoms : sore head resistant to conventional

analgesics, vomiting ) = higher interruption of the ascent until

complete resolution of signs + simple analgesics

Severe AMS (symptoms : shortness of breath at rest or normal fatigue

and decreased .

Our guides , assistants and porters are specially trained to ensure very

close to you and respond to any suspicious signs , trust them and listen

to their advice. Do not try to go beyond your strength if they ask you to

stop for a moment. They are used and know exactly how to react in

case of problem.
