The best place for Scuba Diving in Mainland India with clear waters and rich marine life
Netrani is a small uninhabited island with sparkling azure waters and an underwater wonderland, and is undoubtedly the best place for scuba diving in India that is easily accessible from mainland.
Netrani Island is a big rock jetting out of the blue Arabian sea, just 19 km away from Murudeshwara, a temple town in North Karnataka. With its crystal clear and azure waters, it is considered the best scuba diving site from mainland India and is accessible within a days trip from Murudeshwara.
Netrani, being a coral island with a coral reef has many varieties of coral, redtooth trigger fish, Indian banner fish, parrot fish, eels and many other varieties. Sights of Orcas and whale sharks around the island were also reported by the divers.
Netrani island is easily reachable from Mumbai, Goa and Bangalore and several dive shops in Goa and Murudeshwara regularly organize dive expeditions here. Visibility here is generally in the range of 15-30 m and dive sites are between 10 to 35 m deep. Best time for Scuba diving in Netrani is from Mid October to Mid May. Sea becomes rough in the Monsoons (Late may to September) and all diving operations are stopped in this off season.
Netrani islands is suitable for divers of all experience levels although a couple of dive sites that are over 20m deep and where all the big fish hangout require advanced open water certification and above.
