Sikkim, the small but beautiful kingdom is situated in the eastern Himalayas. Sikkim is termed as the Switzerland of the east, a heavenly paradise on earth. It covers an area of 2818 square miles 7325 square kilometers. It is rectangular in shape with seventy miles in the north to south and forty east to west. Geographically it is 28 Degree 07' 48'' degree and 27 degree 04' 46'' north latitude, and 88 degree 00' 58' and 88 degree 55' 25'' east longitude. In the north it is bounded by Tibetan plateau to its east is Bhutan and Chumbi valley of Tibet and in the southern side is bounded by West Bengal India. There are two passes in the eastern boundary with Tibet Nathula pass (4700 metres) and Jelepla(4016 metres ). To the west lies Singalila range which forms the most important boundaries between Nepal and Sikkim with a pass named Chiwabhangjang (3400 metres). There are two important rivers In Sikkim Teesta which starts from Tashidrag Glacier in the north and Rangit which is a tributaries of Teesta river.
YUKSAM- SACHAN (2400Mts 05 hrs trek) overnight Camp.
You will cover 10km in 04 to 5hrs.The route will start out with a gradual ascent and descent through the dense semi-tropical forest, along the Rathong River's gorge. You will encounter waterfalls, untouched moss-laden forests of pine, oak, magnolia and rhododendron trees and many other varieties of flowers and birds.
SACHAN- TSHOKA (3050mts04hrs trek)
Sachan,from here it is a steep 04hrs climb to Tshoka until a final steep couple of hours will bring us to the small settlement of Tibetan village and small Tibetan Monastery. Tshoka also offers a view of Mt Pandim,Tinchi Khang and Narsing. Overnight Camp/Hut.
TSHOKA –DZONGRI (4100Mts 05 hrs trek) over night camp /hut.
From Tshoka,the trail continues to Phedang(3450m),and this section will take 2-3 hrs.Here you will break for lunch. The climb here is gentle and you can observe the transition from the coniferous forest to the rhododendron forests. Also this is one of the best trails for birds watching. Another 2 hrs walk brings you to Dzongri.The trail starts off with a relatively flat walk for about 1 hour, followed by a steep half hour climb, and then a half hour downhill walk along a winding path with sparse vegetation. Overnight camp.
This is an attractive setting to gain some essential early acclimatization. Early morning we air for view point (Dzongri view point) with the optional of seeing the sunrise from the nearby prayer flagged hillside where the king of Sikkim used to come to pay his respect to the holy mountains. In the clear weather the views here are excellent.
DZONGRI – THANGSING (4024Mts 05 hrs trek)
The trek is initially a flat walk for about half an hour, then a steep descent through the rhododendrons, towards the glacial prek river. After crossing the rivers; it will be another 1 hour gentle climb to Thansing.Overnight camp.
THANGSING –LAMUNE (4164 Mts. 03 hrs. trek) Overnight camp.
Follow an easy trail up to the valley through low scrub with Thangsing peak and Pan dim the right and Kanchendzonga, Gacha peak ahead. A steep climb of 40 minutes takes us over an old glacier moraine and down to Lake Semite.
LAMUNE –Zamathang View point (4950 Mts.) –THANGSING.
Early morning we air for Goch-la. An alpine starts at 04.00hrs, will allow us to reach our objective as the sun rising and the air is clear. The high Himalayan landscape of tumbling glaciers, great pinnacled fridge and soaring peaks is dominated by the elegant but mighty bulk of Kanchendzonga towering 3500 Mts. above us, but view from our own summit will be the extraordinary. Now we descend down to Lamune and gentle walk to Thangsing, Overnight camp.
THANGSING –TSHOKA (3050 Mts. 06 hrs trek)
