Trekking at Khechuperi Lake, Sikkim By Lamdik Eco Ventures


Sikkim, the small but beautiful kingdom is situated in the eastern Himalayas. Sikkim is termed as the Switzerland of the east, a heavenly paradise on earth. It covers an area of 2818 square miles 7325 square kilometers. It is rectangular in shape with seventy miles in the north to south and forty east to west. Geographically it is 28 Degree 07' 48'' degree and 27 degree 04' 46'' north latitude, and 88 degree 00' 58' and 88 degree 55' 25'' east longitude. In the north it is bounded by Tibetan plateau to its east is Bhutan and Chumbi valley of Tibet and in the southern side is bounded by West Bengal India. There are two passes in the eastern boundary with Tibet Nathula pass (4700 metres) and Jelepla(4016 metres ). To the west lies Singalila range which forms the most important boundaries between Nepal and Sikkim with a pass named Chiwabhangjang (3400 metres). There are two important rivers In Sikkim Teesta which starts from Tashidrag Glacier in the north and Rangit which is a tributaries of Teesta river.

    pick up at Badogra Airport
    Drive to Darjeeling 04 hrs.Overnight hotel.

  • Day 2

    Darjeeling, sightseeing, Tiger Hill,
    this is the highest point in the Darjeeling area. An early morning trip to witness the sunrise is must. Watching the rising sun strike the colossal Kanchenjunga range of snow-capped peaks in a blaze of rapidly changing colors is truly spectacular and the way back we will visit Batasi War Memorial and HMI (Himalayan Mount ring Institute).Overnight Hotel.

  • Day 3

    Darjelling drive Via Pelling to Khechuperi Lake 05 Hrs.Overnight Family guest house.
    Khechuperi lake is one of the scared lake of this state, The lake remains hidden in the rich forest cover. It is believe that bird do not permit even a single leaf to float on the lake surface. This mysteriously wishes fulfilling lake. Situated about 25 Km from Pelling. Khechuperi Lake is base for Pilgrimage Treks, Pangmalung Singalila, Dzongri Gecohala & this place is the best for the Bird watching, Starts from Khechuperi Lake.

  • Day 4

    KHECHUPERI Trek to Dawareli (2300mts 05 hrs) over night camp

  • Day 5

    KHECHUPERI –BAZARA (3280mts 06 hrs. trek)
    Overnight camp. Our first day takes us to Bazara, walking at last gentle rising trail, through rain forest until a final steep, we get marvelous view to the huge circle of mountains & in the middle,Mt Khangchendzonga.

  • Day 6

    BAZARA- JAKTA PHOKARI,( 3950Mts 06 hrs trek) Overnight camp.
    A gentle rising traverse through forest and then a more exposed hillside brings us to the prayer flags adoring our first pass and views of distant mountains.

  • Day 7

    This is an attractive setting to gain some essential early acclimatization. Around trip to near by sacred lake Jaktay Phokari.

  • Day 8

    JAKTAY PHOKARI-PANGMALUNG (Si hrs trek ngalila ranges 4150Mts 06 hrs trek)
    Rising before dawn, a five minutes walk on the ridge will rewards with the first of the many spectacular sights of journey sunrise on Mt KHANGCHENDZONGA, Mt PANDIM and pass the sacred lakes Neer Phokari,Sanu Jamla.

  • Day 9

    A round trip to near by Pangmalung view point for some Nepal Mountains ranges, some sacred lakes Jamla lake, Laxmi Lake, a final steep couple of hours bring to Nepalese border and pass through Singalila Ranges.

  • Day 10

    PANGMALUNG- TEGYAPLA (3950Mts 06 hrs trek) Overnight Camp.
    A futher hour contouring and a small rise brings to DAP-LA, Reluctantly drop steeply down to GOMATHANG Rivers, and climb through forest of sweets smelling silver fir and rhododendrons look for the brightly colored Daphe birds which nest is the high cages around the Kamsey La 4200Ms, and drop down into Cockling meadow locking up at next dominated by the dizzying pinnacle and ice cliffs of Khangdzonga.

  • Day 11

    TEGYAPLA-DZONGRI (4100Mts 06 hrs trek, Overnight camp.
    The route joins the regular trail unto Semite and Geochala, An atmospheric initial descent to cross a last high valley before a long steady climb up to the open summer pasture of Dzongri.

  • Day 12

    A rest day at Dzongri with the optional of the sunrise from the near by prayer flagged hillside where the King of Sikkim used to come to pay his respect to holy mountains. In clear weather the views here are excellent.

  • Day 13

    DZONGRI-THANGSING (3930Mts 05, hrs trek Overnight camp.

  • Day 14

    THANGSING`-LAMUNE (4164 Mts. 04, hrs trek Overnight camp.

  • Day 15

    LAMUNE-GECHOLA (4950Mts.)
    An alpine starts at 04.00Hrs, will allow to reach the objective as the sun rising and the air is clear. The high Himalayan landscapes of tumbling glaciers, great pinnacled fridge and soaring peaks is dominated by the elegant the mighty bulk of Khandzonga towering 3500Mts above, but view from own summate will be extraordinary, Now descend down to Lamune and then to Thangsing over night camp.

  • Day 16

    THANGSING- TSHOKA (3050Mts) 06 hrs trek.
    Over night camp. We follow our foot until Perk Chu and follow the mountain ridge taking its lower side till we come out at PHEDANG. From here a sharp descend of 02 hrs all the way will bring us to the small settlement of Tibetan village at Tsoka, Overnight camp.

  • Day 17

    YUKSAM 177O Mts. 06 hrs trek.
    We follow the traditional route back to the main valley and then on to YUKSAM

  • Day 18

    drive to Badogra airport/NJP railway station 05 hrs.
