Ruinsara Tal(3380m),a clear lake is at the foot of Mt.Kalanag and is about 8Kms from Osla.Ruinsara Tal is another attractive place for trekkers in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.Ruinsara Tal is surrounded by Alpine Pastures and low Rhododendrons and is considered as sacred by the Villagers of the Har-Ki-Doon Valley. The lake is near the source of Supin river.The lake gives the closer views of Mt.Kalanag and Ruinsar ranges which are superb.Ruinsara Tal is adjacent to Swargrohini range.Ruinsara Tal is located just below the Bandarpoonch Glacier and is a ideal camping site.Ruinsara Tal is a small lake but gives a magnificent look of the BandarPoonch, KalaNag and Swargarohini peaks.From Ruinsara Tal one can trek to Yamunotri (via Bali pass(Yamunotri pass)) which is at a distance of 15Kms.Ruinsara Tal is the best camping site to the Bandarpoonch glacier and from here you can visit the glacier which is about 23Kms from here.Up above are the azure blue skies, on your right and left loom the dense forests of chestnut, deodar and sycamore.

A fascinating trek across the Ruinsara Tal and Yamunotri Pass trails is all about bringing the open vistas of Har ki Dun valley along the Himalayan panorama. From the high Bali Pass, which is also being called as the Yamunotri Pass, the Ruinsara Tal-Ymunotri Pass Trek brings the camping bizarre by the side of the Ruinsara Tal (lake) for an outstanding experience. The unique encounter of the cultural practices and the village regions along with the meadows and shepherds of Thangi during the trekking makes the whole event a remembering experience. Besides, trekking along this region also bring a sacred chance to make a glorious visit to the holy shrine of Yamunotri which is yet another superfluous moment. The region which is cloaked in mystery at an altitude of 3566 m brings a great challenge to the adventurers to the land of the Pandavas lying along the Fateh Parvat at the western part of Uttarkashi. The Har Ki Dun Mountain Trekking will take you to the source of the Karmanasha stream which meets the Obragaad stream below a village named Sankri or Saur, to form the supine river which unites with the Rupin River flowing from Himachal Pradesh, at Netwar, to become the Tons River – a major tributary of the Yamuna River.


  • Day 1

    Delhi- Dehradun Arrive the previous night in Delhi. Day can be spent visiting old Delhi and other historical monuments. Take the late night train from Delhi for Dehradun.

  • Day 2

    Dehradun - Mori/Sankri (1100m/1950m, Drive / 5-6 hrs) Drive to Mori, a beautiful village on the banks of river Tons with pine forests all around. If we are doing good time, another great spot is the Sankri village, 25 kms ahead of Mori! Overnight in fixed camp/guesthouse.

  • Day 3

    Mori/Sankri- Taluka (Drive / 1-2 hrs) - Seema (2600m, Trek / 5-6 hrs) A meandering road leads us to the trekking point at Taluka village, from where the walking begins till Osla. This trek is mostly through a thick forest that fringes the Supin River. Camp across the Osla village at Seema. In the evening we trek up to the Osla village and have a cup of tea with the villagers. We will also visit the local temple here. The traditions and practices of this village are very unique and interesting. Overnight in tents.

  • Day 4

    Seema - Har-Ki-Dun (3566 m, trek / 5-6 hrs) From here on there are no villages. Today we walk through some delightful meadows and a few forested patches to reach the magnificent meadows of Har Ki Dun. En route we cross a few streams and a beautiful waterfall. Har Ki Dun has unending pastures, streams and the famous Swarga-Rohini peaks as the drop presents quite a delightful picture. Also visible are the mountains of Dhaula Dhar. Overnight in tents.

  • Day 5

    Har-Ki-Dun – Exploration and Rest Day (Round trek / 6 hrs) On this day you could just relax and soak in the natural beauty or decide to further explore the valley. We will trek up to the Jamdhar glacier and be back by afternoon to Har Ki Dun. Overnight in tents.

  • Day 6

    HAR KI DUN - DEBSHU BUGYAL (3000m, Trek / 4-5 hrs) Today we retrace the step towards Seema and a few kms short of it cross the river and climb up to a beautiful grazing meadow called Debshu Bugyal. Overnight in tents

  • Day 7

    DEBSHU BUGHYAL - RUINSARA TAL (3350m, trek / 4-5 hrs) The trail today is through lush green grassy lands with moderate gradient throughout. Ruinsara Lake is delightful spot with the lake being surrounded by ridges of the Swarga-Rohini range and meadows all around. There is a good walk from the campsite next to the lake towards the Kiyarkoti meadows. One can walk a short distance on it. Overnight in tents

  • Day 8

    RUINSARA TAL - BALI UDIYARI (3850m, trek / 5-6 hrs) This is again a beautiful day for walking. We descend a bit cross the river and then walk up through delightful grasslands to reach the spectacular meadows of Thangi. At Thangi we spend some time with the shepherds and savour the very impressive views. From here it’s a steep ascend to the campsite at Bali Udiyari. Overnight in tents

  • Day 9

    BALI UDIYARI - BALI PASS (YUMNOTRI PASS - 4780m) - DAMINI (3900m, trek / 6-7 hrs) Today we start early and climb along the stream to reach the ridge on top of the camp. From here we have a very interesting walk along the ridge top till the glacier at the bottom of the pass. The trek is quite steep over scree, boulders & snow to the top of the Bali pass (4780m). There are great views of the Swarga-Rohini & Bandarpoonch peaks along with several other summits. The descent on the other side is quite steep with one patch where we might need to use a rope. We walk down to the campsite at Damini. Overnight in tents

  • Day 10

    DAMINI - YUMNOTRI - JANKICHATTI - MUSORRIE (2000m, trek 3-4 hrs drive / 5-6 hrs) Its a short walk to the holy shrine at Yumnotri. We visit the temple at Yumnotri and walk down to Jankichatti from where we get into the vehicles and drive to the popular hill town of Mussoorie. We check into a hotel and enjoy a hot shower. Overnight in a hotel

  • Day 11

    MUSORRIE - DEHRADUN - DELHI (Drive 1 hr & train / 5.5 hrs) After a leisurely breakfast we explore the markets of Mussoorie. Late afternoon we drive down to Dehradun and board the evening Shatabdi express train for Delhi. We arrive in Delhi by 2240 hrs. Trip Ends Here!
